CANBURNE GUNDOGS

Breeding Golden Retrievers of sound temperament and proven working ability

Our kennel currently contains eight golden retrievers, all of whom live indoors with us during the day.  One is on the retired list but all the others work full time throughout the year picking up or doing tests out of season.

Canburne Gundogs

Pepper (Canburne Pepper) was born in 2003, homebred by us out of Gia (Tauvechan Honor of Canburne) by Catcombe Clever.  She picks up every week on the local shoot and is an excellent game finder.

In 2004 we bought in a bitch puppy, Saffy (Trevale Saffron of Canburne), who has now retired from trialling but is an invaluable member of our picking up team.  She has won an open test and was part of the victorious SW GRC winning team in the 2007 Golden Retriever Interclub Tests.

In 2007 we bought in a cracking dog, Cane (Millrythe Kinrara of Dovespring), from his owners who were emigating to the United States.  He also is a member of the picking up team and has fathered a number of litters, most recently to a bitch who came all the way from Switzerland.  His hip score is 7:6, eyes clear, and he is available at stud.  He has a super temperament and is a very happy boy.

Also in 2007, we mated Cane to Pepper, who produced a lovely litter of seven.  We kept two, Tepin (Canburne Tepin) and Gypsy (Canburne Gypsy), who are both delightful characters and showing great promise in their work.  They were both entered in a number of working tests last summer; they did not win anything but they did not disgrace themselves either.  They have both been out picking up every week this last season and we are very pleased with their progress. Tepin has a hip score of 6:6, eyes clear, and Gypsy has just had her hips x-rayed and has clear eyes.  If her hip score is good, we hope to have a litter from her this summer.

In 2008, Saffy and Cane had a litter of ten splendid pups - four boys and six girls.  We have kept two from the litter, Paddy (Canburne Padraig) and Roisin (Canburne Roisin), who are both showing great promise in their training, are very affectionate and a joy to live with.  We hope to do some working tests with them this summer and have them out picking up next season.  They have both just had their hips x-rayed and they both have clear eyes.

Bruce and Ann started working and breeding golden retrievers in 1985 and since then we have won numerous awards in field trials and working tests.  We have regularly run picking up teams at a variety of different shoots and we have held training classes for retrievers, spaniels and HPR breeds.  Bruce is on the panel of the Gundog Club, is an assessor and regularly runs training courses for the club.  He is also a field trial secretary, has judged many working tests and has also had the honour of judging at a number of field trials.
